Reading During Lockdown
Reading Matters!
We know that everyone connected with our school community knows how much we value and celebrate reading. It’s very sad that COVID has curtailed some of the amazing reading events that we would normally hold throughout the year, but it has in no way dampened our enthusiasm and passion for reading, or our commitment to making our children not just able to read but lifelong readers!
We have put together a short list of online resources that you may find useful to use at home:
For the younger readers in EYFS and KS1
https://www.teachyourmonstertoread.com
https://readingeggs.co.uk (currently offering parents a free one month trial)
www.oxfordowl.co.uk (colour coded reading books, as used in school)
https://online.raintree.co.uk/ (colour coded reading books, as used in school)
https://www.bbc.co.uk/cbeebies/stories
For KS2 readers
www.oxfordowl.co.uk (colour coded reading books, as used in school)
https://online.raintree.co.uk/ (colour coded reading books, as used in school)
For everyone

Another fantastic resource that you can all access for free is Borrowbox. If you are a member of Manchester libraries, you can borrow eAudiobooks for free with your library card.! If you aren’t a library member then you can register online and start borrowing
In the case of https://online.raintree.co.uk/ your child’s class teacher should have provided you with a username and password. Please do not share these details with anyone outside of our school community. We have paid a licence fee to enable us to use these resources within our school only.
If you have any queries about any aspect of reading, please contact your child’s class teacher or Ms Cooper, the school reading co-ordinator.
And as we always say “Keep reading!”
