Co-op Local Community Fund

BECOME A CO-OP MEMBER AND HELP CAVENDISH SECURE ESSENTIAL FUNDS
We have exciting news, Cavendish has been chosen by the new Co-op local community fund but we need your help to secure it.

WHAT IS THE CO-OP LOCAL COMMUNITY FUND?
The Co-op is looking for more than 4,000 local good causes to benefit from a share of an estimated £8m that is generated through its membership scheme.
Co-op members get 1% of everything they spend on Co-op products to give to a local cause that matters to them. Cavendish successfully applied to be one of these causes for the next round of funding, running from April to September 2017.

Our project is one of three projects chosen within our local store on Burton Road.

They choose projects led by small, locally based organisations that benefit the local community centred around Co-op food stores; have the greatest possible benefit to their community; and who will make maximum use of the amount of funding available.

SO WHAT PROJECT HAVE WE CHOSEN?
Cavendish would like to provide some outside reading spaces for our pupils to help support every day reading. The Cavendish Reading Sheds project would utilise the funds to purchase and kit out two reading sheds so that during playtimes, all pupils have access to fun and designated reading zones in the playground. As you know, is a huge focus here and the Cavendish Reading Sheds would extend our reading for pleasure provision.

The idea of creating an outdoor reading spaces came to Helen Cooper, reception teacher and reading coordinator at Cavendish, last year when a pupil remarked to her: “I wish we could have a place to read outside”. It got her thinking how the playground was always alive with children being active but there was nowhere forth those children who may like to sit and relax and read.

Securing the Co-op funds would allow Cavendish to purchase the two purpose built reading sheds and fit it out with comfortable cushions and book storage furniture.
All pupils will benefit through offering them a space to practise their reading, and hopefully help to improve attainment levels. But just as importantly, foster a love of independent reading and aid many children’s general well-being, as the sheds will offer a calm space to relax and be quiet, away from the noise of the playground.

SO HOW DO YOU CHOOSE OUR PROJECT?

• If you are not already a member, simply sign up to become a Co-op member, instore or on-line at www.coop.co.uk/membership

• Once a member, sign in online, select Co-op Community Funds, search for local projects to you and or via Cavendish Community Primary Reading Sheds. Choose the Cavendish Project.

• If you are on Facebook or Twitter, share the news that you have supported our project and encourage others to do the same. And if you tag us in with @cavendishpta we can retweet.

We will keep you updated on how the fund is progressing over the coming month but keep an eye out for further publicity. We can’t wait to be able to share the reading sheds with the children but we need your help.

Please join today and take time to choose our projects and make the Cavendish Reading Sheds a reality. Plus if you’re a regular shopper, the more Co-op own brand products you buy, the bigger the funding pot becomes and the more Cavendish will benefit.
